Over thirty years ago, Charlotte native Terry Robertson started his career as a funeral director at Harry and Bryant Company, then the city's most distinguished funeral home. In 2007, he founded Robertson Funeral & Cremation Service, a family - owned funeral establishment in Charlotte. Robertson Funeral & Cremation Service became the first firm in Charlotte to provide transparent pricing directly on their website.
Prior to opening his own business, Terry was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma of the neck at MD Anderson Cancer institute due to his exposure to formaldehyde, a chemical used in embalming fluid. He was given a 30% chance to live 5 years. This experience would lead to him eventually establish the first combination funeral home and conservation green cemetery in the South Eastern United States. In 2020, Mr. Robertson founded Kings Mountain Preserve (www.kingsmountainpreserve.com), Charlotte area’s first conservation green cemetery offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional burials. At the Preserve, no vaults, metal caskets or toxic embalming chemicals are allowed.
Continuing his pursuit to offer more environmentally friendly services to the Charlotte area, in 2023, Terry founded Charlotte Aquamation (www.charlotteaquamation.com), Charlotte’s first aquamation service offering an environmentally friendly alternative to flame cremations. Aquamation, or alkaline hydrolysis produces no carbon emmissions which are produced with flame cremation.
